The changes in the composition of Sweden’s parliament, the Riksdag, from 2006 to 2018

Sweden is inching toward political transformation

Sweden may be nearing a political realignment of historic proportions. The mainstay, center-left Social Democrats can no longer deny that public safety problems stemming from mismanaged immigration are real or ignore the alarming erosion in the quality of education, healthcare and social security systems. The future of the party’s alliance with blue-collar labor unions, once the source of its impressive staying power, is also uncertain. The party’s national-conservative nemesis, the much-reviled Sweden Democrats, has been gaining strength and may win big in 2022.
