GIS Guest Expert Sir Michael Leigh is a senior fellow at the German Marshall Fund (GMF) of the United States and visiting scholar at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University in Washington. He is currently an Erskine fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He has written and lectured extensively about the European Union and transatlantic relations. Sir Michael served as director-general for enlargement at the European Commission after a career of more than 30 years in the European institutions. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and a PhD in Political Science from M.I.T.
