Michael Leigh
Sir Michael Leigh is an expert in European policy and transatlantic relations. He is a lecturer and former director-general for enlargement at the European Commission.
Currently, Mr. Leigh serves as academic director for the masters degrees on global risk and European public policy at Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) and is a visiting distinguished fellow at the German Marshall Fund (GMF) in Brussels.
In 2017 Mr. Leigh was an Erskine fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He has written and lectured extensively about the European Union and transatlantic relations.
He served as director-general for enlargement at the European Commission after a career of more than 30 years in European institutions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University and a PhD in political science from M.I.T.
