GIS Expert Sir Michael Leigh is academic director for the masters degrees on global risk and European public policy at Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) and is a visiting distinguished fellow at the German Marshall Fund (GMF) in Brussels. In 2017 he was an Erskine fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He has written and lectured extensively about the European Union and transatlantic relations. Sir Michael served as director-general for enlargement at the European Commission after a career of more than 30 years in European institutions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in political science from M.I.T.
