Election win for President Santos if Colombia peace talks successful
The outcome of Colombia’s presidential elections rest on the success of peace talks with the country’s largest guerilla group the FARC. Progress is being made to establish a process which sees an end to a 60-year conflict which has cost 220,000 lives and with former rebels taking part in Colombia’s political process.
COLOMBIA’S President Juan Manuel Santos is standing for re-election and is likely to win by a wide margin if peace talks with the guerilla group FARC are successful.
The election cycle begins with congressional elections on March 9, 2014, for members of both chambers followed by the first round of voting for president on May 25.
