The Nabucco pipeline is at the centre of a political drama which could tip the balance away from Russia's dominance over the supply of gas to Europe. Both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are under heavy pressure from Russia not to build this pipeline because the legal status of the Caspian Sea is disputed. For Russia - and Iran - it is advantageous to keep this status unclear to restrict activities not in their interests
