Smart grid technology has been breaking new ground in Japan's domestic market. These projects will test out innovative, decentralised systems which integrate power generation from renewable energy sources, power storage, consumption and network control with maximum efficiency. But the initiatives are being carried out in a gradual manner, without any centrally-adopted strategy.
