Kurdish independence and its consequences

The crisis and unrest across the Middle East is opening potential pathways for the Kurds - the region’s largest ethnic group which so far has not gained political independence - to gain recognition and political independence. In the midst of the present turmoil in the Middle East, the unexpected may happen. The disintegration of Syria and possibly Iraq may present an opportunity for the Kurds to set up their long-awaited state. In such a case, though, the Kurds will have to find solutions to a set of difficult problems.
