Mining and energy sectors spur Mozambique’s rapid growth

Foreign investors are moving in to capture the phenomenal growth potential in Mozambique. It is expected to become one of the world’s five fastest-growing economies based on vast newly-discovered energy reserves off its coast, coal in the north of the country and a wealth of other minerals. But this poses potential risks of unrest if the wealth is not shared among the population which has been among the world’s poorest.

MOZAMBIQUE, a poor and underdeveloped East African country with most of its 23.4 million population living on as little as US$1 a day, is expected to become one of the world’s five fastest-growing economies.
