The Great Lakes of Africa conjure up images of great scenic beauty and abundant wildlife, but in recent years the region, in particular eastern Congo, has been the fighting ground for rival rebel militia groups, many of whom have come over the border from Rwanda in the wake of the 1994 genocide. No solution is yet in sight, but countries in the region are pushing for an Africa solution.
