Masayoshi Son, the head of Japan’s SoftBank Corp, is once again attempting to expand his company in a move which some observers believe is fraught with risk. But risk is what Mr Son is all about, and is what he says has propelled him from his very humble beginning to one of the wealthiest men in the country.

IT IS already a classic rags to riches tale. But now Masayoshi Son, who grew up, the grandson of a Korean immigrant in an illegal shack in southwest Japan and went on to found the US$40 billion telecommunications giant, SoftBank Corp, is about to go one stage further.
