Nations in West Africa, particularly Nigeria, Angola and Ghana have yet to exploit their rich resources of oil and gas to the full. There have been signs of improvement in recent years, but these are not enough to lift those countries out of poverty. This report looks at recent advances in energy production, new markets and the obstacles that are holding the countries back.

WEST Africa has been described as an emerging oil and gas province, along with Brazil and the Arctic. But the hunt for hydrocarbons in the region started more than six decades ago.
