Sales of military equipment to foreign countries are worth billions of dollars to the United States. But these defence exports are bound up in red tape and restrictions. Now the government plans to streamline export controls and help ease the country out of recession at the same time.

WASHINGTON will place an emphasis on growing its defence exports in the future regardless of who wins November’s race to the White House.

The renewed effort to boost defence exports could reshape both the global defence industry and competition among regional powers.
