US-Egypt relations hit new low over human rights raids
The US government has threatened to withdraw US$1.55 billion in aid to Egypt in response to the Military Council’s crackdown on human rights and pro-democracy workers. The Egyptian security forces arrested a total of 44 people including 19 Americans, Egyptians and other foreign nationals in a move aimed at eliminating foreign threats to Egypt’s security.
