John Kerry’s appointment as US Secretary of State heralded hopes that a thaw was possible in America’s chilled relations with Russia after the reset policy initiated by the White House four years ago failed to live up to expectations. But it looks as though it will take more than Mr Kerry’s appointment to reset the reset.

ANY HOPE that the appointment of John Kerry as US Secretary of State would spark closer ties between Russia and the States is already being dashed.
