Venezuela’s disparate opposition has united to select one candidate for the October presidential election. They have chosen lawyer and politician Henrique Capriles, the governor of Miranda state, who has never lost an election to contest the role of president with Hugo Chavez, South America’s longest serving leader, who is also battling cancer.

LAWYER and politician Henrique Capriles Radonski has united the democractic opposition for the first time in a decade and is standing against Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez in October’s presidential election.

Mr Capriles, a 39 year-old bachelor, has won every election he has ever contested.
