Robert Mugabe has just bolstered his powerbase in Zimbabwe by unilaterally reappointing his military chiefs of staff despite promising otherwise. In doing this he has ignored the power-sharing agreement with his political rival Morgan Tsvangirai. But as his health fails is it the 88 year-old president or the military which exerts power?
ZIMBABWE’S President Robert Mugabe is a survivor. He celebrated his 88th birthday in February, 2012, after 31 years in power and has demonstrated again his firm grip by outfoxing his power-sharing rivals.
