GIS provides business leaders, senior managers and policymakers with genuine and relevant, scenario-based geopolitical forecasts to inform their strategic decision-making.

General Services

When you enter our website without registering, so-called server log files will be automatically recorded. These are the browser type and browser version, the operating system used, referrer URL, hostname of the accessing computer, time of the server request and an IP address.

These files are processed for strict technical purposes, in particular:

  • ensuring a hassle-free connection to the website,
  • ensuring smooth use of the website,
  • evaluation of the system’s security and stability
  • Processing takes place in accordance with Article 6 subparagraph 1 (f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), based on our legitimate interest in improving the stability and functionality of our website. Recipients of the data are technical service providers who are contracted by us for development and maintenance of our website. The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer necessary for the purposes stated above. This means it is deleted once the session has ended. The provision of the aforementioned personal data is neither legally nor contractually required. Without the IP address, on the other hand, the service and functionality of our website are not guaranteed. Additionally, individual services may not be available or limited. For this reason, provision of the website’s services without the IP address is not technically feasible.

    Registration on our website

    By registering for the use of our fee-based services, personal data is collected, such as: name, address and e-mail address. Registered users can change or delete the data provided during registration at any time. The processing of the data entered during registration takes place with the consent of the user according to Article 6 subparagraph 1 (a) of the GDPR. Recipients of the data may be technical service providers who act as processors for the operation and maintenance of our website. Data is processed in this context only as long as the corresponding consent exists. Thereafter, it will be deleted, as long as no legal storage requirements apply. The provision of your personal data is voluntary, solely based on your consent. Without the provision of your personal data, however, we cannot grant you access to our content and services offered. 

    By creating an account or buying individual or bundled reports on our website or signing up for our newsletter, you acknowledge and accept that you may be contacted by GIS to make sure our services are working properly or to be informed about changes/ developments. We may also ask you for your feedback. 

    Provisions of paid services

    To provide paid services we ask for additional data, such as payment details to complete your order. The processing of the data required for the conclusion of the contract, which is based on Article 6 subparagraph 1 (f) of the GDPR. We store this data in our systems until the legal retention periods (10 years, PGR) have expired. The provision of your personal data is voluntary. Without the provision of your personal data, we cannot grant you access to our content and services offered.


    Your data will be used exclusively to send you the subscribed newsletter via email. The retention of your name takes place to enable us to address you in the newsletter personally and, if necessary, to identify if you want to make use of your rights as a person affected by our service. For the receipt of the newsletter, the indication of your e-mail address is sufficient. When you register for our newsletter, the data you provide is used exclusively for this purpose. Subscribers may also be notified by email about circumstances that are relevant to the service or registration (such as changes to the newsletter offer or technical conditions).

    For an effective registration, we need a valid e-mail address. To verify that an application is actually made by the owner of an e-mail address, we use a "double opt-in" procedure. For this purpose, we record the order of the newsletter, the dispatch of a confirmation mail and the receipt of the requested answer. Further data is not collected. The data is used exclusively and only for the newsletter and will not be forwarded to third parties. On the basis of your expressly given consent under Article 6 subparagraph 1 (f) of the GDPR, we will regularly send you our newsletter or comparable information by e-mail to your specified e-mail address. In addition, you can unsubscribe from this website at any time or inform us of your revocation via the contact option indicated at the end of this privacy policy. Recipients of the data may be our technical partners. The data is processed in this context only as long as the corresponding consent exists. After that, the data is deleted.     Use of Google Analytics

    We use Google Analytics, an internet analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"). Google uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about the use of the online offer by the users are usually transmitted to a Google server in the United States and stored there. Google is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement, which provides a guarantee to comply with the European privacy legislation


    Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate the use of our online offer by users, to compile reports on the activities within this online offer and to provide us with further services related to the use of this online offer and the internet usage. In this case, pseudonymous usage profiles of the users can be created from the processed data. We only use Google Analytics with activated IP anonymization. This means that the IP address of the users will be shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be sent to a Google server in the U.S. and shortened there.

    The IP address submitted by the user's browser will not be merged with other data provided by Google. Users can prevent the storage of cookies by setting their browser software accordingly. For this, we have completed a corresponding order-processing contract with Google. The deletion of data takes place as soon as it is no longer necessary for our recording purposes.     Embedded YouTube videos

    On some of our websites, we embed YouTube videos. The respective plug-ins are operated by YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA (hereinafter "YouTube"). When you visit a page with the YouTube plug-in, it will connect to YouTube's servers. It tells YouTube which pages you visit. If you are logged in to your YouTube account, YouTube may associate your browsing behavior with you. This can be prevented by logging out of your YouTube account beforehand.     The legal basis for the integration of YouTube and the associated data transfer to Google is your consent under Article 6 subparagraph 1 (a) of the GDPR. Your YouTube activation automatically triggers a connection to Google. Anyone who has disabled the storage of cookies for the Google Ad program will not have to expect any such cookies when watching YouTube videos. However, YouTube also stores non-personal usage information in other cookies. If you want to prevent this, you must block the storage of cookies in your browser.

    Social Plugins

    Our websites use social plug-ins from the following providers.

  • The plugins can be recognized by their logos, clearly marked. These plug-ins may send information, including personal information, to the service provider and may be used by the service provider. We prevent the unconscious and unwanted collection and transmission of data to the service provider through a 2-click solution. To activate a desired social plugin, it must first be activated by clicking on the corresponding button. Only through this activation of the plugin, the detection of information and its transmission to the service provider is triggered. We do not collect personally identifiable information by means of social plugins or their use. We do not have control over the data which an enabled plugin collects and how it is used by the provider. At present, it must be assumed that a direct connection to the services of the provider will be expanded and at least the IP address and device-related information will be collected and used. It is also possible that the service providers try to save cookies on your computer.     Google Adwords

    Our website uses Google Conversion Tracking. Google AdWords Services is the Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, U.S.A. If you have reached our website via an advertisement sent by Google, Google Adwords will set a cookie on your computer. The conversion tracking cookie is set when a user clicks on a Google-served ad.

    If the user visits certain pages on our website and the cookie has not expired, we and Google may recognize that the user clicked on the ad and was redirected to our page. Each Google AdWords customer receives a different cookie. Cookies cannot be tracked through AdWords advertisers' websites. The information gathered using the conversion cookie is used to generate conversion statistics for AdWords advertisers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers are told the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a conversion tracking tag page. However, they do not receive information that personally identifies users. The legal basis for the integration of Google AdWords and the associated data transfer to Google is your consent under Article 6 subparagraph 1 (a) of the GDPR.

    Whenever you visit our website, your personal information, including your IP address, is transferred to Google in the U.S.. This personal information is stored by Google. Google may transfer such personal data collected through the technical process to third parties.

    Our company does not receive information from Google that could identify the data subject. These cookies lose their validity after 30 days and are not used for personal identification. Google processes your data in the U.S. and has submitted to the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework. If you do not wish to participate in the tracking, you can refuse the required cookie – for example via a browser setting that disables the automatic setting of cookies or sets your browser to block cookies from the domain "".

    We reserve the right to amend this privacy policy to always comply with the latest legal requirements or to implement changes to our services in the privacy policy, e.g. when introducing new services. Your new visit will be subject to the new privacy policy.
