Ulrich Menzel is a professor of international relations. He has taught and researched at the universities of Bremen, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Duisburg and Braunschweig. From 1993 to 2015 he held the Chair for International Relations and Comparative Government Studies at the Institute for Social Sciences at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He received his PhD in 1978 from J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt.
His areas of expertise are theory and history of the international system, development theory and north-south relations, international political economy, peace and conflict research. His regional focus is on East and Southeast Asia (especially China and Japan) and Europe.
