Klaus Wölfer
Klaus Wölfer is a diplomat with extensive experience in the Balkans, Turkey and Southeast Asia.
He graduated from Vienna University’s law department in 1974 and from the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna in 1979. In 1981 he joined the political section of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thereafter, he worked in the Austrian embassies in Rome, Belgrade, Budapest and Zagreb.
Between 1991 and 1995, Mr. Wölfer was the head of unit for the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the ex-Yugoslavia crisis zone.
Between 1996 and 2006 he worked with several organizations to promote arts and culture in Rome and Vienna.
From 2007 to 2011, he was Austrian Ambassador to Indonesia, Singapore and Timor-Leste, and Permanent Representative to ASEAN. From 2012 to 2017, he was Austrian Ambassador to Turkey.
Between 2017 and 2021, he served as Director for Southeast Europe and EU Enlargement at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in Vienna, as Deputy Political Director and 2020/2021 as Special Envoy for the Western Balkans.
