Junhua Zhang

Dr. Junhua Zhang is a senior associate at the European Institute for Asian Studies. He has been a professor of political science at the School of International and Public Affairs of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Zhejiang University for 10 years.

Currently, he is a visiting professor at the Graduate School for Asian Studies at the Free University of Berlin. He is also a senior consultant at the Gerson Lehrman Group Councils. He was senior visiting fellow at the University of Sussex in 2011 and visiting professor at the Hebrew University in 2012. He has been a columnist for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung since 2006.

From 2008 to 2011, he acted as a guest editor for the Journal of Historical Sociology, based in London. He received his PhD in philosophy from the Goethe University in Germany. Apart from his long academic career in Germany at the Free University Berlin and Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, he has also served as a visiting professor at several universities around the world, including the University of Victoria in Canada, the University of Moscow and the Institut Européen des Hautes Etudes Internationales in France. From 2007 to 2016, he was a member of the advisory board and guest professor at the Danube University Krems in Austria.

His research fields are comparative political systems and international relations with a focus on China-related international political economy and social memory.

His most recently published book (ed.) is Israel’s Contemporary Political and Economic Developments (以色列政治经济发展报告), CASS Publishing House, Beijing, 2018.
